Texas or Bust!!!

I cannot WAIT for next week to come because I will be chilling in the Lone Star state with all my homies y toda mi familia. ahhhh....it can't come soon enough. We'll be gone July 2 - July 11. We'll be in Texas for the first part, then we're driving up to Arkansas for Miguel's family & friends. And then we fly back from Tulsa, thanks to the sweet deal we found through Southwest Airlines.

So how 'bout this weather? you know it's bad when you live on the top floor of the complex and still experience flooding. Yep, today I had to clear out our entire home computer system and desk due to water seeping in from the wall and soaking the carpet. Oh and then I drove through what I thought was a small puddle, then my car had water flowing in under the dashboard and onto the floorboard. It freaked me out! I pulled over, parked on a hill to hopefully "drain" the water, and then went to Starbucks for a frapp.

Oh guess what? I had jury duty today! I went in and ultimately was not selected. But it was interesting to be a part of the process and do my citizen duty. However, I definitely saw a pattern with the jurors that were dismissed - we were all WOMEN. Hmmm...

Okay well off to get ready for manana. Later, tater.

Most fun weekend

This has got to go down as one of the best weekends of 2006 for me, so far. It started on Friday night when I went to my very first Washington Nats game at RFK Stadium - and it was Game 1 of the series against the Yankees! Whoo- what a game! We had just under 45K people there that night. But I heard the record was broken and they had OVER 45K there the next day. So yeah, they lost that first game I saw in person. But it was still VERY cool to be there live and in person. Had GREAT seats right behind first base. Plus, a fight broke out between two Yankee fans behind us - yeah, those were kick-ass seats with action all around us!! And yes, the Yankee fans were there in numbers. It was almost like all of NYC traveled down to be there. I kept trying to out-yell the fans around me. Therefore, I lost my voice the next day. But hey, the Nats made up for it in Sat and Sun games, didn't they? Let's go NATS! Now they face Boston. Let's see how they do...

So early on Saturday morning, we got up and drove 4 hours down to Raleigh, NC to see this great band out of Ohio called Watershed. Here is their My Space page here if you want to check them out: http://www.myspace.com/watershedcentral
They are a great bunch of guys. Plus, I love them even more because their second set of the evening was ALL Cheap Trick covers - WHOOT!! I am trying to convince them to come to the DC area and play the IOTA. They said they would love to. I talked to their manager and he said they MIGHT be in the area around August opening up for the Clarkes. We shall see...

Got back into town around 4pm and just spent the rest of the day preparing for the week.

Now it's time for bed since I was out till 3am last night and 1am the previous night and drove 4 hours yesterday & today. ZZZZ. But believe me, it was worth it! all for the love of sports and ROCK & ROLL!! For those about to rock, we salute you.

Mission accomplished!

Well now I can cross one more thing off of my list of "things to do before I die"....I made an international phone call!! I called my good friend, Carlos, in Guatemala. Okay yeah, I know for all you world travelers out there you're like "big effin' deal". Well for ME it is! I have never traveled outside of the U.S. I don't even own a passport! So yes, for the first time in my life, at 30-something years old, I made my first international call. Some may call this a sad way of life since I haven't seen much of the world. And yeah, someday I'd like to get at least ONE stamp in a passport. But hey, I got a nice stable life here and I'm grateful for all the good things I have.

My mom just had minor back surgery on Monday. She's had back problems for years & years. And she can't walk around for long periods of time or else she'll be in pain. So on Monday she had this wire temporarily installed in her spine to see if it makes her feel better. This wire emits small electrical impulses to her spine so that when she typically experiences pain, the impulse will intercept this so that she doesn't feel the pain. After one full day of having it, she said she hasn't felt this good in years - YAY! so the next step is getting this wire permanently installed into her spine. She's going in next week to schedule the surgery. We'll see how it goes!

Well off to bed now...

Got Cup fever?

Oh yeah. It's alive & strong up here. On Friday duing lunch, we went to a place that had the Germany/Rica game on. At first I was like "okay, whatever, anything to get a break from work". But after watching the first part of the game, I didn't want to go back to work!! I wanted to stay and watch the rest! Anyway, now it's all about the USA game with Czech tomorrow. I might have to all of a sudden "get sick" at lunch tomorrow during the work day.. That all depends on whether or not I get called into JURY DUTY. Yep, I got summoned! I have to call the Jury Hotline tonight to find out if my group will be called into session. I almost wish I will be so it will keep me out of work. (My boss has been a "pill" to deal with lately)...
So last night I went to see Tom Petty with Trey Anastacio at Nissan. GREAT show! Three other co-workers were there, plus I went with one of my old ARC co-workers. It was a good time! Today Miguel & I want to go see the Al Gore movie "An Inconvenient Truth". Did you all catch his hilarious opening skit from Saturday Night Live a few weeks ago? Here's a link in case you missed it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iQGj0mLSdKs
So yeah, I got my hair cut! It reaches my shoulders, so it's not a crew cut or anything. But it was still drastic to see all that hair coming off. I mean, it was reaching the middle of my back! But afterwards, I immediately felt the difference and now I feel so much lighter. I'm ready for the summer now! I would include an updated picture but my camera is sort of broken. Once I figure that out, I'll post.
Hope everyone has a great week!
