Happy Labor Day!
This weekend was sort of a "Flashback" kind of weekend for me.
First off, I FINALLY got to see some familiar faces in town. Many thanks to Trudi and Dana for allowing me to accompany them to dinner this past Thursday and Saturday during their pilgrimage to Austin. Hope you had a good time in my fair city!
Then on Saturday night, I went to an '80's show at Lake Travis. The venue was on the shores of the lake and all these boats were pulling up and setting up anchor near there to hear the music - must be nice! The concert featured Tommy Tutone, The Romantics, Missing Persons and 10,000 Maniacs. (I left before 10,000 Maniacs came onstage so don't ask me how they were). I was impressed with Tommy and The Romantics - both put on rocking sets chock full of their classics. Solid guitar, vocals and harmonica. Missing Persons wasn't all that great. First off, the only original member is Dale Bozzio, the female lead singer. Second, her voice isn't what it used to be. I saw her go off-stage frequently to take a swig of whatever was in her cup so maybe she was sick. But her on-stage banter was weird. There were all these crickets flying up onstage at her throughout the set and she kept referring to them as "grasshoppers." It was like her voice was a beacon to them.
So although summer is over, I have no reason to be sad. There's too much stuff to look forward to: the ACL festival is next week, football season gets started, there are the cool holidays in the Fall (Halloween, Thanksgiving). So dry your eyes, there's no reason to cry over summer being over.
