My new favorite local band!

I am SO glad I went to the Black Cat last night because I caught a GREAT local band with tons of energy and stage presence. (Plus it was nice not smelling like an ashtray after the show thanks to the new no smoking law in DC) The Washington Social Club have an amazing retro sound. Some of the songs from the CD sound like it's from Stiff Fingers records, others sounds like Cheap Trick. It's a nice mix of power pop, punk, hard rock. And Olivia, the bass player, is a GOOD bass player. She was all over that fretboard pounding out the notes. The lead singer was bouncing around the stage like Johnny Rotten. The two guitarists had a great sound. Most of the songs had 2-3 part vocal harmonies with catchy choruses. Yeah, I like them! Check out their MySpace page below. Thanks to my cousin for dragging me to the show! (P.S. Have fun in London!)

So Super Bowl is next week. Who are you voting for? I am going for the projected "underdogs", the Bears. My friend in Boston said that Peyton is as hated as the Yankees there - ouch! So you know who HER choice is! Well as long as the Bears don't break into that stupid dance, the Super Bowl Shuffle, it's all good.

Resolutions and Congrats Pats!

Whoa Brady! So this wasn't his best game, but the Pats came through at the last five minutes of the game to comeback from an 11-point deficit to defeat San Diego. Congrats to all my NE amigos! I have a special place in my heart for Brady since he was my Fantasy Football QB and he won me several games - whoo!

SO, with the new year comes the reflection on improving life. I have the usual resolutions of exercising more and being more savvy with finances. But in addition, I've added some self-enhancement goals:

1) Become fluent in Spanish. Especially since I'll be back in Texas later this year. But also because it's time to get back to my roots. Besides, there was a recent study that said bilingual people have a slim chance of developing dementia in the their "golden years". Yeah, I need all the help I can get!

2) Learn to play the keyboard/piano. Mike got me a keyboard last Xmas. I bought a teach-yourself program - started it but never finished. I would love to do this.

3) Go to church more. Yeah, I haven't been to Mass since Sept.

That's about it. I don't ask for much!

P.S. Isn't Brady dreamy?
