What the hell is going on in this world???

Today a NASA contractor shot a NASA employee and then killed himself. This happened at Johnson Space Center in Houston which just happens to be where my sister, Patty works. As soon as I heard the news I was burning up the phone lines and trying to call her desk, her cell, her home numbers - but no answer. Then I called my parents in San Antonio to see if they had heard from her, but they hadn't. So my Dad got on the job of trying to find out what was going on.
My mom called back to say that Patty did call Dad back to let him know she was okay. That she was on 'lock-down' and couldn't leave yet. She works in the building right next to the 44 lab - which is where the incident took place. When they were allowed to leave, she FINALLY called me back directly.
I tell you, THAT was hard. I mean, it certainly doesn't compare to what happened at VT, but when it's close to a family member, oh my God, it's hard.
I just thank God she wasn't in that building and I am so grateful. I tell you this whole week has been so weird. I think I've told everyone that I love them (esp Mike) about a thousand times since it proves that you just never know.
In other news, I am heading to San Diego on Sunday evening for a trade show next week. It ought to be a good time. (Boy do I need THAT.) I'm tired of worrying and crying.

To all my Hokie friends....

After the devasting events at VT on Monday, I just want to say that all of my thoughts are with you and I pray that all of you and your loved ones are okay.
I just don't understand. Why the taking of so many innocent lives? If someone is unhappy and ends their own life, yes that's sad. But when a person is unhappy and then not only kills themself but takes so many other lives with them - lives that had NOTHING to do with what they were personally going through? I just don't understand that at all. My mind just cannot comprehend that.
I was at the gym this evening and they had the TV's on and the news kept playing that horrible video the killer made before he went on the rampage and those photos of him pointing the gun at the camera. And they kept showing those over and over again! I just couldn't continue to watch. It was just too disturbing. He must have known that this video would be broadcast to everyone and that just chills me. It's just pure evil.
I'm just sad about the whole thing and my heart goes out to the people who lost their lives, and their families, and to EVERYONE at VT.
