So I just got back from NYC for a trade show at work and had a GREAT time! I even managed to see a Living End show all by myself in the city! Plus, I road the subway, walked about 500 miles, ate lots of food, went shopping at Macy's and saw some Project Runway attractions - such as the building that has the workshop the designers work in and the Macy's outfit that won that particular challenge (the dress pant suit). I stayed at the Marriott Marquis in Times Square and for those of you who haven't been there, it's a swinging place. It's smack dab in the middle of all the action - plenty of people-watching opportunities and close to many fine restaurants. I was lucky to get a room on the 42nd floor with a fantastic view of Times Square. Thank goodness this was all paid for by the company!
While I was there, some interesting events happened to distract me. First, my mom had her back surgery on Tuesday. I was worried about her ALL day and it was hard for me to work. But Dad was great at calling my cell and giving me the updates. In fact, she was already at home on Tuesday night! They installed that wire next to her spine which will help intercept the pain. Hopefully this will improve the overall quality of her life and she will be able to live more comfortably from now on. I spoke to her directly on Wednesday and it was SO great to hear her voice.
SO, the other development is that Mike calls me while I'm in NYC and says that the company he works for - Universal Computer Systems - has just been acquired by Reynolds & Reynolds. Nobody at his company is giving him more information than that - which is making the field technicians restless. Mike, surprisingly enough, is taking it all in stride. In fact, he said earlier tonight that if they decide to lay off all the field technicians within the next three months, then we would just move to Texas sooner than expected.
of COURSE I have no objections to this. But still, it would be a change in the grand plan - which, I know, I know is what I want to achieve overall. However, I still have problems with "changing plans". Mike has taught me to be much more flexible than I was before, but I still get antsy when plans suddenly change.
For instance I have two more trade shows coming up in Sept & Oct. If I go while those are going on, things will be all discombobulated at the company. Oh well, I guess we will wait & see...
I found this amusing "horoscope" that supposedly tells what drinks we prefer based on our astrological signs. Here's what it says for Librans:
Libra (Sept. 23 to Oct. 22)
Drinks served in fine glassware will go a long way to please Libra. Almost more than the taste, Libra loves the visual and aesthetic experience of the cocktail. Odds are even a beer will be more appealing to the sign of the Scales when served in an attractive bottle or glass. Librans also enjoy the elegance of champagne, consumed in romantic settings and combined with the sweetness of fruit, as in the classic Mimosa. No slamming your fist on the bar, please -- Libra likes it serene.
